Wisdom is one of the most powerful tools that we can have in life. The Bible has a lot to say about the topic of Wisdom. It can be the difference maker in someone’s future and destiny.
Proverbs 2:1-7
My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.
9 Then you will understand what is right and just
and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Discretion will protect you,
and understanding will guard you.
Here is what wisdom can do…
1. Wisdom Can Change Your Situations
A wealthy old lady decided to go on a photo safari in Africa. She took her faithful pet golden retriever along for company. One day, the golden retriever starts chasing butterflies and before long the dog discovers that he is lost.
So, wandering about, he notices a leopard heading rapidly in his direction with the obvious intention of having lunch. The golden retriever thinks, “OK, I’m in deep doo-doo now! Then he noticed some bones on the ground close by, and immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat. Just as the leopard is about to leap, the dog exclaims loudly, “Boy, that was one delicious leopard. I wonder if there are any more around here.”
Hearing this, the leopard halts his attack in mid-stride, as a look of terror comes over him, and slinks away into the trees. “Whew,” says the leopard. “That was close. That golden retriever nearly had me.”
Meanwhile, a monkey who had been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree figures he can put this knowledge to good use and trade it for future protection from the leopard. So, off he goes. But the golden retriever saw him heading after the leopard with great speed, and figured that something must be up.
The monkey soon catches up with the leopard, spills the beans and strikes a deal for himself with the leopard. The leopard is furious at being made a fool of and says, “Here monkey, hop on my back and see what’s going to happen to that conniving canine.”
Now the golden retriever sees the leopard coming with the monkey on his back, and thinks, “What am I going to do now?”
But instead of running, the dog sits down with his back to his attackers, pretending he hasn’t seen them yet… and just when they get close enough to hear the golden retriever says…
“Where’s that darn monkey? I sent him off half an hour ago to bring me another leopard!”
That dog had some pretty good wisdom I’d say. Getting wisdom on the current situations in your life can change everything. You can begin to rise up out of whatever you are facing. Wisdom can be the difference maker between where you are and where you need to go. Without wisdom we can fall victim to repeat the past over and over. However, with wisdom we can navigate through anything life throws at us. No matter what situation you are facing financially, spiritually, physically, emotionally, etc… wisdom can give you everything you need. Wisdom give us hope for a better future. There is always HOPE if we have the wisdom to see it. I am convinced there are no hopeless situations only hopeless people. Wisdom gives you answers for the future. You can never lose hope when wisdom is guiding you along your journey.
2. Wisdom Can Change Your Future
I have often said, “You are only one idea away from a major break through in your life.” My wife Erin loves to come up with inventions in her mind. I have to admit she has some pretty amazing ideas, I am sure one day she will invent something that will be a major breakthrough. The truth is every great invention started with an idea that changed the future. Wisdom gives you the ideas you need in order to break through the obstacles and challenges in your life. Who you can become and the potential you have is unlocked when wisdom fills your life. Your future is not a product of the past, it is a product of your wisdom. One idea from the depth of wisdom can change your destiny in an instant.
3. Wisdom Can Change Your Legacy
The examples you leave behind for your children, their children, and their children’s children is part of your legacy. The impact you make in this world leaves a legacy. Toward the end of the 19th century, Swedish chemist Alfred Nobel awoke one morning to read his own obituary in the local newspaper. It read:
“Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, who died yesterday, devised a way for more people to be killed in a war than ever before; he died a very rich man.”
Actually, it was Alfred’s oldest brother who had died; a newspaper reporter had messed up the epitaph. But the account had a profound effect on Alfred. He decided he wanted to be known for something other than developing a means to kill people efficiently, and for amassing a fortune in the process. So he initiated the Nobel Prize, the award for scientist and writers who foster peace.
Nobel said later: “Every man ought to have the chance to correct their obituary in midstream and write a new one.”
Legacy is about leaving a mark in this world. Wisdom allows you to know how to leave your mark in this world.
