Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as the comforter. Why would we need a comforter if our lives were already comfortable? God has called us to risk and step out for Him and sometimes that is not comfortable. In fact, it will stretch us way beyond what we are comfortable with.
When you are in over your head it doesn’t matter how deep it is, so you might as well go further. God has always been a God of growth, stretching, and advancing. He is a creator, He knows no limits. And remember we were created in His image to operate the way He operates. Being uncomfortable is part of the Christian faith. In my book “Life Rules” I talk about Making Your Purpose More Important Than Your Comfort. Here is a snippet…
“Whenever you step out of your comfort zone into uncharted territory there is always the potential to discover new lands and new possibilities. The problem is…we tend to be settlers rather than pioneers, entranced with familiarity rather than exploring greater things. We are designed to be pioneers with purpose. Every great thing we have in life is because someone pioneered it. Without pioneers we wouldn’t have the type of life that we live today. Pioneers blaze new trails and discover new and greater things. Settlers manage what they have. They are content with what is in their control. They may have a sense of security but they will never experience the joy of discovery. They will cap out and put a limit on their life. Over time that lid will become a prison that they will be too afraid to step out of. WHEN we settle we SURRENDER our POTENTIAL.“
The person you want to become exist outside your current level of awareness. The only way to become that person is to increase 3 things…
1.) Your Experiences
You need to make sure you embrace new experiences that will stretch you and grow your potential. Quit refusing things that are outside of your comfort zone. Everything that you experience brings a seed of wisdom with it. Don’t be afraid to do things that you are not ready for or that you have never done. We all know the famous definition of insanity: doing the same things over and over and expecting a difference result. Get involved in opportunities that will help you become who you want to be.
2.) Your Reading
If you are not reading you are not growing to your maximum potential. The more you read the more you grow. Borrow other people’s ideas, experiences, wisdom, and principles. Surround yourself with mentors through books, blogs, articles, etc… Make sure that you are expanding your awareness by filling your mind with great thoughts and challenging concepts. Read books in the areas of your strengths, gifts, calling, etc… Drink wisdom from the wells of great resources.
3.) Your Friends
Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future. Understand that you WILL become like those you surround yourself with. Make sure you are spending time with people that will encourage you, influence you, and challenge you to be more than you are now. We cannot reach our potential alone, we need others to help draw the best out of us. Get a life coach that can help you discover your purpose, develop your potential, and do great things.
