A missionary went to Sierra Leone, West Africa. When she first arrived there, she was fascinated to see people wearing American T-shirts even when they didn’t know what the words meant. Her biggest laugh came the day she saw a man wearing a pink shirt with an arrow pointing to his tummy with the words: “Baby on board.”
Like this man with the shirt, sometimes we are unaware of our actions. We say and do things without realizing the impact…good and bad. Think of the things that have been said or done to you that made a significant impact. I bet the other person that did these things (good or bad) is not even aware of their doing. Everyday our actions and words make an impact. They have the ability to build people up or break them down. We cannot overlook or take lightly to how our life impacts other people.
Here are 4 ways to always make an impact…
1. Always Speak Life
You will never have to worry about your integrity when you speak life over other people. The more you bless others, the more they will be a blessing to others, and the more they will bless you. When you speak positive and encouraging words about others you will never have to fear that they may have heard what you said about them. If you cannot say what you say about others in front of them, you should NEVER speak it out.
Proverbs 18:21
The tongue has the power of life and death
2. Always Be Friendly
There is never a good reason to give the cold shoulder to someone else. There is never a good reason to hold a grudge towards someone else. There is never a good reason to harbor unforgiveness towards someone else. No matter how “bad of a day” you are having or how many “issues” you have, we do NOT have the right as ambassadors of Christ to belittle others. Make sure your Golden Rule is not tarnished.
Matthew 7:12
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you
3. Always Be A Giver
When you give to others you are sowing seeds of impact. Wether you are giving of your service, finances, smile, a helping hand, skills, or whatever it is you can give, you will make a difference. When you give to others it keeps your heart pure and humble. The more we give the more you receive in terms of influence and impact. Givers never have to worry about being selfish or coming across as self-serving.
2 Corinthians 9:7
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
4. Always Express Gratitude
Staying grateful and appreciative is one of the greatest ways to keep yourself in line. When we let our attitude be one of thanksgiving, we tend to be much happier. It is when we feel we deserve something that we are in danger of being ungrateful. Ungratefulness turns into selfishness, and selfishness turns into pride. Pride keeps us from our fullest potential. Having an attitude of gratitude ensures we are on the road to impact.
Proverbs 17:22
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
