One day a wealthy father took his son on a trip to the country so that the son could see how the poor lived. They spent a day and a night at the farm of a very poor family. When they got back from their trip, the father asked his son, “How was the trip?” “Very good, Dad!” “Did you see how poor people can be?” “Yeah!” “And what did you learn?” The son answered, “I saw that we have a dog at home, and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden; they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lamps in the house; they have the stars. We have landscaping for our small garden while they had an entire forest. Our patio reaches to the front yard; they have the whole horizon.” When the little boy was finished, the father was speechless. His son then added, “Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are!”
Perspective can change everything. Remember the popular hologram pictures? When you stood just in the right place, an abstract picture would change before your very eyes to a beautiful scene. You had to get the exact perspective in order for the image to become clear and brilliant. Life works the same way. Many times we see situations out of focus. The choices we need to make become blurry and we lose perspective in the moment. Perception is truly greater than reality. Too many times we are focused on what we DON’T have, rather than on what we DO have. When we become consumed by what we DON’T have we let bitterness set in. When we become consumed by what we DO have we let thankfulness set in. The truth is that we have ALL the riches and provision we need in Christ!
2 Peter 1:3
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of Him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
Did you read that clearly? He has given us EVERYTHING we need through OUR KNOWLEDGE of Him. So the question arises…do you have the KNOWLEDGE of Him? Do you have the UNDERSTANDING of His blessings? Do you have the TRUST in His provision? KNOWLEDGE of God focuses on how big He is, not how small we are. It focuses on how much we have, rather than how little we have. It focuses on how limitless He is in us, not on how limited we are in ourselves. KNOWLEDGE of God means that we have the right perspective about God’s awesome power that is able to do ALL things!
So the challenge today is to get PERSPECTIVE about what you do have in Christ, not what you don’t have in yourself. The boy we read about earlier had the right perspective about life, make sure you have the right perspective about life and you will begin to SEE greater possibilities around you! How you view life will determine what you get from it!
Here are 4 quick ways to get a great perspective…
