Our thoughts have a fixed value. Godly thinking increases our faith, but negative thinking decreases it. Be aware of the results your thoughts will generate. Do not welcome destructive, defeated, and distracting thoughts. There is no value in negativity. Quit thinking the worst and start thinking the best. Understand that circumstances are not happening to you, they are happening for you. Choose to see the good in all things and know when your mind is thinking thoughts that are unfruitful by paying attention to the consequences of them. Do not go on autopilot and let your mind wander in the land of negativity—it devalues who you truly are. Cast down damaging thoughts that do not line up with God’s Word and eject them from your mind. The Bible tells us to hold every thought captive.
2 Corinthians 10:5
Demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
We are called to literally demolish every idea that sets itself up against God’s Word. We have to learn the art of filtering. The function and purpose of a filter is to purify and catch the junk before it contaminates everything else. In the same way, we must filter our thoughts. If we fail to purify our thoughts, they will go off the rails on a crazy train to destruction. We can miss opportunities around us when our mind is not on the mission God has for us. Life is not just about paying the bills, working to retire, enjoying the weekend, and watching the next engaging mini-series; it is about fulfilling our purpose and mission on this earth by being the hands and feet of Christ to the world. We cannot live out our mission if our minds are only on earthly things. We can only fulfill our mission by training our brain to be mindful of the purposes of God in us. Do not make agreements with faith-destructive thoughts.
