Fear is responsible for almost every missed opportunity. It is the archenemy of progress. Most people don’t realize how much fear they really possess…or rather, I should say, how much fear possesses them. The moment we give in to our fears is the moment we cease growing. All true progress takes place just beyond the borders of fear.
For every new level, there is always a new devil. And that devil’s game is always fear. Fear will tell you:
- You’re not ready
- You’re not good enough
- You’re too optimistic
- You’re an imposter…a fake
- You’re too ambitious
- You’re too slow
- You’re too fast
- You’re too this…too that…fill in the blank
Remember: Fear will always tell you the opposite of what you should do. It will literally be your personal devil’s advocate, contradicting your faith. Fear lies to us, making us focus on the hypothetical. It will cause you to retreat from your destiny.
Most people are running from their fears. They go the opposite direction they should be going. But this only plays into the lie that keeps them from their true potential. Successful people don’t run from fear…they run through it. Did you get that? They aren’t running from what will test them…they’re running to it. They face their fears head-on. They aren’t afraid to challenge themselves.
The path to your destiny runs straight through the center of fear. In fact, you can’t make it to your ultimate purpose without breaking through fear. Unfortunately, most people turn around or take a detour to avoid their worries. But this deviation only prolongs their agony. It may give them temporary relief from being uncomfortable, but it only delays their destiny in the long run. Fear is simply a speed-bump, not a stop sign. If you treat it like a stop sign, you’ll miss opportunities.
If you only move forward when you’re comfortable, you’ll stop short of your potential. Living a life of significance will require you to get comfortable with the uncomfortable. It will cause you to live in a constant state of healthy discontent. We are limitless creatures created by a limitless God, so, you will always want to be, do, and have more. Not out of greed, but out of a need for growth. God is a creator…it’s in His nature to create and expand, thus we have within our nature the same spiritual DNA.
2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
