Designed for Purpose: Discovering God’s Blueprint for Your Life – Part 2

If you have not read Part 1: Created with Purpose – A Profound Truth That Changes Everything do so before reading this…

Part 2: Living Your Purpose – From Knowing to Doing

Now that we’ve laid the foundation—your life has a deep purpose—how do we move from understanding this truth to living it out daily? In this second part of our series, we’ll explore what it means to walk in purpose and how to fight against the mission drift that so easily distracts us.

Love God & Love Others: The Two-Part Mission

Jesus couldn’t have been clearer when He answered the Pharisees’ question about the greatest commandment:

  1. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
  2. Love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37-39).

These two commands aren’t just moral suggestions; they are the blueprint for living with purpose. When you focus on these, you step into the very reason for your existence. You will never experience the fullness of God without embracing these two truths.

  • Loving God: This is the internal work of growing closer to your Creator. It’s about being in relationship with Him, worshiping Him, and allowing His love to transform who you are.
  • Loving Others: This is the external expression of your faith. It’s about using your gifts to serve, encourage, and uplift those around you.

Combat Mission Drift

Life is full of distractions, and it’s easy to lose focus. Sometimes, we find ourselves caught in what I call Mission Drift—moving away from the simplicity of loving God and loving others. To stay aligned, here are three strategies:

  1. Identify Your Gifts: God has equipped each of us uniquely. Whether it’s teaching, serving, creating, or encouraging, your gifts are tools for fulfilling your mission. 1 Peter 4:10 reminds us, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” What gifts do you have?
  2. Decide to Act: Don’t wait for perfect conditions or a loud divine voice to step into your calling. Start where you are. Whether it’s volunteering, sharing a kind word with someone, or offering prayer, each action matters.
  3. Stay Grounded: Build systems in your life that keep you focused on your mission. Whether it’s starting your day in God’s Word, surrounding yourself with like-minded believers, or journaling your journey, these practices can help combat the distractions of life and keep our eyes on the bigger picture.

Your Purpose in Everyday Life

Purpose isn’t found in grandiose acts; it’s woven into the fabric of your everyday life. From a conversation at the grocery store to the way you encourage a coworker, every moment carries potential for impact.

Colossians 3:23 reminds us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Purpose isn’t about waiting for the extraordinary; it’s about doing the ordinary with extraordinary love.

The Takeaway

Living with purpose is less about what you do and more about who you are and who you serve. It’s about staying anchored in the truth that you are God’s masterpiece, designed to reflect His love in everything you do. Let this simple yet profound truth guide you: You were created with a purpose, so live it with passion.

Now, go forward and live out the two greatest commandments. You’ve been called, equipped, and sent for such a time as this. Let’s make it count!
