Do You Suffer From Situation Disorientation?

When I was in elementary school my friend and I went on an adventure into the woods behind my house. We lived out in the country with lots and lots of unexplored areas of trees, leaves, and streams. We ventured out deep into the the forest with nothing but ourselves and excitement. We were building forts, walking through streams, and flipping mud all over. After we ran out of energy we decided to head back home before it got too late. We started walking and walking…and more walking as we were talking, but nothing was familiar. Before long we knew we were LOST! We had no idea where we were and certainly no idea how to get back home. We started to panic and walk faster yelling…”HELP!” but it was just silence. My friend was really freaking out about this time then he looked at me and said, “What are we gonna do?” I replied…”We’re gonna die!” I told him to start gathering wood for fire (even though we had no matches and no Boy Scout training). I figured we might be out there for weeks, months, maybe even years before someone found us. Somehow we decided to keep going even though we were worn out. Finally, we came out of the woods and ran right into the main road a few miles from our house. We recognized it and realized we were home free! Thankfully we made it home. I walked in the house assuming my parents would greet me with excitement and joy seeing as how we must have been gone for forever. I figured search parties were out looking for us and the news casters might even be somewhere in the house interviewing my family. To my surprise my parents just said, “Hey.” I was shocked, why weren’t they worried and terrified? Then I realized we had only been gone for a few hours total…guess it wasn’t as bad as I had made it out to be in my head.

Sometimes in life we can get lost. We get what I call SITUATION DISORIENTATION. This happens when we are in the middle of situations in our life that cause us to lose all sense of hope and direction. We get disoriented to the point of discouragement and despair. I have found that there are a lot of lost people in life. There are also a lot of lost Christians too. It’s not that they don’t know God, but they don’t know where God is. They feel lost in what to do and what God wants them to do.

We need a spiritual compass, a faith that is pointing us true north to the truth. Learning how to navigate through life can change everything about our destiny. The great news is that the Holy Spirit is our compass, He is our guide.

 John 16:13 (NIV)

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth.

What a great promise. We can be lead to the truth. We can be escorted out of our questions and concerns into answers and courage. The Holy Spirit has already come to the earth, but has He come into your life? Are you operating with the Holy Spirit as your compass? If you want to experience the wisdom, power, and clarity that God has we must come into contact with the Holy Spirit and allow Him to lead us everyday.

Galations 5:25

25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

SITUATION DISSORIENTATION happens when we don’t walk according to the Spirit. However, when we come into contact with God’s presence and allow the Holy Spirit to lead us we will navigate to our destiny day by day.
