I am a firm believer in that everyone needs to have hobbies that they love to do. Things that allow us to step back and just enjoy life and the fun things God has given us. So many people live stressed out, boring, workaholic lives. Jesus came to give us life and life to the fullest.
John 10:10 – The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
God gave us great food to enjoy on the earth, he gave us the desire for ambiance and entertainment. He gave us a beautiful world to take in and explore. God gave us our senses to live a full life. The Bible is full of little examples of things we have to enjoy. Jesus was a carpenter, He enjoyed to build things. Fishing is a Biblical sport, right? The reality is, we forget to bring Jesus into the remote places of our lives like our hobbies.
I am a creative person and I enjoy to create music, art, graphics, ideas, just about anything I can I guess. I have learned so much through these hobbies and how God uses them for us. I think that in order to be effective in life we have to have things that refresh us. The important thing to remember is to use your hobbies as times to connect with God. If you are an artist let your mind get lost in God’s creative power and let Him show you things through that. If you like to build things wether it be with wood or computers, let God teach you examples through those principles. If you enjoy nature, fishing, hiking, let God speak to you through His amazing creation. We need to take time in life to rest. I call it, blessed rest. When we bring God into our rest and relaxation there is a blessing that comes from it. I think rest was designed for us to be ready to face the challenges we will face in life. When we get proper Godly rest we are rejuvenated to make an impact in others. Jesus took time to rest and He slept. He replenished His energy physically to keep on keepin’ on spiritually, so should we. When we are rested and refreshed we are able to have God’s strength. Hobbies have a way of refreshing our minds and gets us refocused to face the days ahead.
Isaiah 40:28-31 – Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
