Forgiveness knows no boundaries.
Think about this…Jesus forgave you before you even did it. That is a mind-blowing thought. He initiated forgiveness before you even knew what you did.
Forgiveness is not conditional upon the degree of what you did, it’s unconditional upon the love of Christ. There is no wrong act that is above forgiveness and no wrong act that is below it. It’s not that some wrong actions are forgivable and others are not. Jesus literally gave forgiveness before it even happened. This means forgiveness is not dependent on what you’ve done, it’s dependant on a relationship of love.
The word forgive is broken down with the prefix for, meaning beforehand and give, meaning something not earned but offered. So forgiveness is something given before it happens…WOW!
Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Forgiveness is not an occasional act; it is a permanent attitude.” Jesus’ attitude was permanently based on love. He came to offer forgiveness for everything before it happened. As followers of Christ, we are forgiven not because we deserve it, but because He gave it to us freely. You can’t earn forgiveness otherwise it wouldn’t be given, it would be forearnedness (I made up that word, pretty good huh?).
Never underestimate the power of forgiveness; it’s the most amazing powerful force of love that can be offered. Forgiveness only comes from love. Forgiving others is uniquely Christian. The ancient pagan world did not operate out of love, it operated out of pride, jealousy, power, and control. The only reason we even know forgiveness is because of Jesus and His followers that spread it around the known world.
Rest in the peace of forgiveness today and know that forgiveness knows no boundaries. Also, extend the same forgiveness you have received to those around you…even before they do something to you.
