The other day I was talking with a friend about innovation. We were having a great discussion about creating and producing content. A thought hit me as we were conversing and I want to share it with you now. I believe this will help you understand how to break through creative barriers. Here we go…
Many people suffer from a “block condition.” Writer’s block, artistic block, project block…whatever you want to call it that you get blocked in, we have a;; experienced it. Here is the good news…it can be simply cured.
Blocks are only indicators, not obstacles. They indicate that we are trying to produce prematurely. Here is what I mean…You can only output what you have inputed. You cannot give of that which you do not have. Blocks happen when we have not inputted enough in order for it to overflow out of us. It is not that you are uninspired, lazy, indecisive, or even stuck, blocks happen because you haven’t filled your creative tank with enough stuff. When you are inputting your creative juices with content, ideas, and resources you will OUTPUT! You won’t be able to help it come out of you, because innovation is an overflow of what we have put within us.
If you are suffering from a block condition know this: You need to go back to the input stage. Do not be discouraged, just start inputting until you are ready to output. If ideas are not flowing easily, you haven’t inputed enough. If you are stuck on what to do, you haven’t done enough homework to prepare for your decisions. If you are not sure what to do about a certain project, you need to go search out what other people have done, and BAM the ideas and creativity will start flowing. Never try to break through your block by starring at a blank slate. As soon as you feel the block, start to read, research, ask questions, call someone, google something about what you are working on…DO SOMETHING that is inputting. If I ever have a block while writing guess what I do? I start reading, and presto, the creativity comes.
There you have it…a simple way to eliminate CREATIVE BLOCKS. How do you break through innovative barriers? By making sure you input is greater than your output.
