How do you know if you are going in the right direction in life?
How can you tell if where you are at in life is pushing you forward?
These are just a few of the great questions I get asked all the time as I coach individuals, dreamers, teams, companies, and even organizations. Let me first state this: All growth takes place outside the comfort zone. So how do you know if you are going in the right direction? First things first, it will be uncomfortable. I didn’t say miserable…I said uncomfortable…don’t confuse the two. You know you are growing when you are going in way over your head. If you are not advancing out over your head, you probably aren’t growing. If your commitments don’t scare you, you probably aren’t stepping out far enough. You can know you are on the right road when things don’t look familiar. When you are stepping out into uncharted territory. The funny thing is most people only step out when they know what lies ahead, but true faith is stepping out even when you are unsure of what lies ahead.
Not long ago I studied the book of Joshua in the Bible. By the way, you need to read this book if you are in a place in your life where you want to get to somewhere greater, but are unsure of how to do it. Anyway, as I was studying this scripture jumped out at me and literally caused me to put the Bible down and just STOP in awe! Are you ready for it? Here it is…as Joshua was leading the children of Israel on an unforgettable adventure into the promised land here is the marker that God gave them to know if they were on the right path…
Joshua 3:4
“Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before.”
WOW! God basically said, “You will know which way to go because it will be unfamiliar. You will be in uncharted territory where you’ll have to trust me.” You see God will call you to places that are bigger than you so that you can show how big He is through you. You know what a great Godly sign is when you are trying to figure out where to go? It will be beyond what you have ever done before. God is an enlarger, He is an expander, He is a builder…always building. He knows no bounds, no limits, no borders, and no excuses. If He has called you to it, He will see you through it. Don’t think it strange if you are stepping out into uncharted territory see it as a sign of faith-building destiny. And by the way…don’t worry about the destination, just embrace the journey, because God will probably move where you thought you were going before you get there…because it’s not just about arriving at where He called you to be; it is about becoming all He has called you to be. The journey is more important than the destination with God.
So how will you know if you are going in the right direction? It will scare the HELL out of you…literally…you’ll have to live by faith and faith alone…which will get all the fear that comes from HELL right out of you!
