I love to play scrabble. Of course the point of the game is to use your words very strategically as to get the most amount of points based on the value of your letter tiles. The way you use your words determines how high you score, which in turn, determines if you win or lose. Life works much like scrabble; how we use our words will determine our outcome.
Proverbs 18:21 (NIV)
“The tongue has the power of life and death…”
What you say is what you get. Our words have creative or destructive power in them. They are self-fulfilling prophecies about our future. The Bible is clear that the tongue is one of the most powerful forces on earth. Nowhere else does it say something has the power of life and death in it.
So the question is: How are you using your words?
How you use your words will determine what becomes a reality around you; life or death, it’s your choice? You will never find a successful person who speaks negatively over their life. And you will hardly find an unsuccessful person who speaks positively over their life. The way you talk about your life and your future will one day manifest itself. This can be great news or it can be devastating news based on how you currently use your words.
King David said in Psalm 23:6, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life…” Notice he didn’t say, “I will follow goodness and mercy.” He declared that goodness and mercy would follow him. He was prophesying his future with that statement. When we are walking in the power of God we can declare that His favor and goodness will be with us, and it will. David was confident that the blessings and favor of God would follow him as he followed God’s leading.
This is what I want you to challenge you with today…How to use your words…
1. Your words are PROPHECIES. Make sure you are speaking faith-filled words about your life and your future.
2. DECLARE the goodness and mercy of God with a “Surely” type of confidence as you walk in the power of His Spirit.
Change the way you talk, and you will change the way you live.
