Galatians 5:22-23a
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
These fruits are seen in the reflection of God.
- Love – being the first thing we display through our attitude. It is the forgiveness and compassion that we show to others when the world only shows hate.
- Joy – filling our lives to overflowing in the midst of adversity. We have hope when the world only feels depression.
- Peace – ruling our hearts as a guardian reminding us that God is in control. We have the peace that passes all understanding when the world has strife.
- Patience – slowing us down to enjoy the process of maturity. When the world tries to recklessly hurry through life at all costs we embrace the journey.
- Kindness – destroying bitterness and hurt. When the world feels like victims we know we are more than conquerers.
- Goodness – following us all the days of our lives. When the world thinks it’s all a matter of luck we know our lives are in the hands of a good God.
- Faithfulness – winning over fear. When the world is paralyzed by fear we move ahead with courage and trust in God.
- Gentleness – controlling the way we react to others. When the world fights fire with fire we are the peacemakers.
- Self-control – breaking our addictions to harmful acts. When the world loses themselves in uncontrolled desires we find ourselves in a place of freedom.
Fruit is something that naturally grows on a healthy tree. We were created by God to display His image for all to see. We were planted by streams of living water (The Holy Spirit) to produce these fruits from our lives.
Psalm 1:1-3
Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
When we hold the spiritual mirror up to our life, we should see the reflection of our Father God. Others should see the character of God within us. Just like it’s easy to tell that a child belongs to their parents because of similar traits, our lives should reflect the characteristics of God. We should bear the DNA of our Creator. At the heart of a worshiper is an unmistakable reflection of the character of God. The questions we have to ask ourselves are…
“Who am I reflecting?”
“What fruit do people see in me?”
A revolution will start to occur in our own lives when we truly realize Who we come from, what our worth is, and our purpose in this story of life.
