Purpose Changes What You Do
When you know what you are supposed to be doing, it’s easier to identify whether or not you are doing the right thing. Purpose is an excellent filter for determining whether or not you are spending your time the right way. It is an internal compass helping us navigate our agendas.
Don’t go by a clock to determine your productivity, go by your purpose-driven compass. Our eternal perspective should direct our earthly objective. If how you are spending your time does not align with your purpose, you will need to abandon that pursuit. My mentor Dr. John C. Maxwell says, “You have to give up in order to go up.”
We can’t get preoccupied with temptations that pull us away from what we are created for. Too many people feel stuck doing what they don’t want to do rather than freely living the life they were meant to live. Determining your purpose brings clarity to your daily duties. Every day should bring you one step closer to fulfilling your purpose. Jesus said He only did what He saw the Father doing. His internal purpose determined His external activity.
John 5:19 (NIV)
Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by Himself; He can do only what He sees His Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.
