An anchor is a device normally made of metal, that is used to connect a vessel to the bed of a body of water to prevent the craft from drifting due to wind or current. Anchors are used to secure a vessel in one spot. Without an anchor a vessel will be tossed around with every wave that crashed against it. Anchors hold your position in the midst of a storm.
The reality is we all need an anchor in life. Not just for a boat, but for our life. Storms will come in life, the waves will crash over us. Life can get wild, but an anchor can hold us firm in place. It can be the very thing that keeps us from being tossed around with no hope. Most people let their condition determine their position. They allow the storm to dicate their destination. Instead of being anchored in, they are drifting with the storm. They find themselves subject to the winds and currents of culture and circumstances rather than being in control of their destiny. Wherever the storm leaves them they wake up in the aftermath of the chaos. But life is not a matter of chance it is a matter of choice. You don’t accidentally end up somewhere in life. The choices you make will determine the destination you take. If you have no anchor to keep you secure and strong you will drift into dangerous waters.
So what is your anchor in life? What is it that you hold on to that keeps you from drifting? Is it your faith? Is it a promise? Is it your strength? Everyone one of us have an anchor in our life, but we must understand what anchor God has given us. My anchor is my purpose, it keeps me from drifting off. Knowing my purpose in life grounds me in truth. It governs my choices and direction in life. If a decision I need to make does not line up with my purpose it is a dangerous current that will lead to nowhere. Knowing what God has put in my heart to do keeps me secure in my faith and in my confidence. If I start to drift outside of my purpose I know I am in shark infested waters.
So what is your anchor in life? Is it God’s word? Is it a promise God has given you? Is it an eternal security? Know what your anchor is and hold on to it. Identify what it is that will anchor you when storms may come your way. What is it that you will hold on to when life gets chaotic and cloudy? Keep that anchor close to your heart and remember it when the clouds roll in and the darkness comes. Throw it out for the night, but remember joy comes in the morning. The sun will appear again and your position will not be determined by your condition. You will stand firm and not be overcome by it.
Ephesians 4:14
Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.
