In the nineteenth century the greatest tightrope walker in the world was a man named Charles Blondin. On June 30, 1859, he became the first man in history to walk on a tightrope across Niagara Falls. Over twenty-five thousand people gathered to watch him walk 1,100 feet suspended on a tiny rope 160 feet above raging water. He worked without a net or safety harness of any kind. The smallest slip would surely be fatal. When he safely reached the Canadian side, the crowd burst into a mighty roar.

In the days that followed, he walked across the Falls many times again. He once walked across the Falls on stilts; another time he took a chair and a stove with him and sat down midway across, cooked an omelet, and ate it. And once he pushed a wheelbarrow across loaded with 350 pounds of cement. On another occasion he asked the cheering spectators if they thought he could push a man across sitting in a wheelbarrow. A mighty roar of approval rose from the crowd. Spying a man cheering loudly, he asked,

“Sir, do you think I could safely carry you across in this wheelbarrow?” “

Yes, of course.” “Get in,” the Great Blondin replied with a smile.

The man refused.

There was one man who trusted Blondin though. His very own manager, Harry Colcord, agreed to ride piggyback as The Great Blondin ventured out. With 10,000 spectators watching Harry climbed on Blondin’s back and held tight as the daredevil walked across Niagra Falls. Harry had to dismount and remount six times on the tightrope in order for Charles Blondin to rest along the journey.

Real trust is more than just words. It is proven action. One cannot talk their way into trust, they must display it by doing. It’s not what you say but what you do that builds trust. Trust is only gained by the ability to follow through with your actions. To truly trust God it requires us to mount up and step out in faith. In fact, you cannot completely trust God without faith. Faith is the manifestation of complete trust. The more faith we have, the more we trust God.

I don’t know what you may be dealing with right now, but know this, YOU CAN TRUST GOD! You can put your faith in His will and His ways for your life. Lift your eyes and begin to look up in victory and faith in the One who is Creator God Almighty! Let Him watch over you and gird you! I believe that you are reading this right now this very moment, because God wants you to know that He is bigger than any challenge you are facing!

Just as Harry Colcord trusted Charles Blondin, you too, can climb up on the back of God and trust that He will guide you in His paths.
