Just like a car needs a tune-up, or a musical instrument must get tuned-up, so we need to get tuned up in our life again and again. Circumstances can bump us out of tune and cause us to get out of broadcasting range from hearing God’s voice. In fact, every day we wake up, we need to get tuned up. Many times our spiritual receiver gets distorted because of the sin in our life. Sin disrupts the quality of the signal coming from God’s frequency. The more sin we allow, the more garbled His voice becomes. If we don’t deal with the sin in our life it causes signal distortion.
Satan is the great distorter of truth and sin is his weapon of choice. Remember in the garden of Eden when the snake said, “Did God really say you must not eat from the tree?” Notice, he was trying to distort God’s voice by making them question if they really heard from Him. That is what Satan does; he subtly tries to disrupt God’s signal by bringing sin into play. He is always working to prevent the clarity of God’s voice in our lives. He is always trying to pull us away from the broadcast range.
Sin pulls us away from who we are created to be. The further we are from God’s heart the more distorted the signal becomes. Sin is choosing to do things our way instead of God’s way. It’s choosing to disobey His will for the sake of our will. Disobedience disrupts our spiritual receiver. It’s hard to hear God when you don’t do what He says to do. If we are going to be in alignment with His frequency we have to get our hearts tuned up. If there is misalignment there can be misinterpretation.
Jesus said, “If you love me, you’ll obey my commands.” There is clarity in compliance. God knows the intent of our heart. He knows what we are going to do even before we do it. Therefore, we must be obedient to His leading and guiding if we are going to open the line of communication from heaven to earth. We can’t expect to hear God’s voice if we are unwilling to follow His heart.
We cannot allow sin to distort our receiver. The great news is that Jesus came to do away with our sin. He came to restore the signal from Heaven to earth. The moment we turn to Him, He cleans up our receivers. No matter how distorted we get, He is always there to tune us back up. We know His voice when we are close to His heart. Never allow the enemy to discourage you from tuning up your life. There is nothing you have done that God can’t restore and renew.
1 John 1:9 (NIV)
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
