Raise a hand. Step forward. Volunteer yourself. Take the initiative to show love.
You can’t truly love others while looking to be loved. It must come from a place of selfless ambition. Pour yourself out, not expecting anything in return. This is unconditional love. It’s not a matter of manipulation or recognition.
A volunteer, by its definition, is someone who does some act or enters into a transaction without being under any legal obligation to do so, and without being promised any remuneration for his services. John Bunyan said, “You have not lived today unless you’ve done something for someone who can never repay you.”
Choosing to give of your life when it is not required of you is the purest form of love. People’s lives are transformed by unconditional love. Once we stop asking, “What can I get?” and start asking, “What can I give?” we will experience the joy of making a difference.
When James Calvert ventured out as a missionary to the cannibals of the Fiji Islands, the ship’s captain tried to turn him back saying, “You will lose your life and the lives of those with you if you go among such savages.” To that Calvert replied, “We died before we came here.”
Volunteering your love is about sacrificing your comfort for the greater good.
Luke 9:24 (NIV)
For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.
