What is love? A great question to ask. What makes up love? Well, if you have not read my last blog post about What Is Love? Part 1 go ahead and do that now. If you already have, let’s get going…
Love is about…
L= Listening
and now to the second component of love…
O = Obedience
John 14:23
Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching.
We show love to God by being obedient to Him, we show others love by being obedient to the way God calls us to treat them. Obedience is how we love. How can you love someone if you are not obedient to them and honor them by your obedience? You cannot love someone but continually disobey their request. Jesus equated our love to our obedience. Our ability to obey is directly related to our ability to love. God did not suggest that we forgive others, He commanded it. If you are a follower of Jesus we don’t get to pick and choose what we obey and disobey we follow God’s principles whole hearted.
You see most Christians are educated way above their level of obedience. We know what to do, but we simply don’t do it. We know the truth, we just disobey it at times. Obedience is about disciplining ourselves to follow through. Everyone wants to be thin, but no on wants to diet, everyone wants money, many don’t want to work hard, everyone wants a nice garden or yard but few are willing to pull weeds all day. Discipline is about being obedient to do what it takes to get what you want. The greatest gap in life is between knowing and doing. To transfer the discipline from our mind to our actions is a huge task. Everyone has ideas to do amazing things with their life but few follow through with the discipline to accomplish it.
True love is about true obedience. True obedience is about true discipline. True discipline is about true action. So in order to truly love we have to truly take action to love. You can’t just say you love someone you have to show them you love them by your actions. Words are not enough when it comes to love. It doesn’t take much to say a one syllable word like, LOVE. But it does take an endless amount of action and discipline to show it. Be someone that truly shows love by being obedient to God and being obedient to the way God calls us to love others unconditionally.
